NUVIA is delighted to have sponsored Nuclear Week in Parliament 2023 for the first time.
The event, organised by the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA), took place in the House of Commons, House of Lords and Portcullis House between 30 January – 1st February 2023. It was a huge success and was attended by hundreds of parliamentarians and industry representatives.
Playing an active role in the UK nuclear industry for over 60 years and the fusion industry for over 30 years, NUVIA hosted a panel discussion during the event, entitled, “Fission and Fusion – Friends or Foes?” It was sponsored by David Johnston OBE, MP and attended by key industry stakeholders and decision-makers. The panel comprised David Johnston OBE MP for Wantage and Didcot, Tris Denton, Director of Commercial Development, MoltexFLEX, Dr. Nick Hawker, Co-Founder and CEO, First Light Fusion and Dr. Martin Goodfellow, Technical and Assurance Director, NUVIA UK.
Chaired by Valerie Jamieson, Fusion Cluster Manager, UKAEA, the panel discussion addressed key questions relating to the important role that both Fission and Fusion energy will play in providing secure, clean and affordable energy in the future – specifically in relation to UK’s ambition for nuclear power stations to generate 25 per cent of the country’s electricity needs by 2050, as outlined in the British Energy Security Strategy published last year.
Further to the panel discussion, NUVIA also participated in the Nuclear Skills and Apprenticeships Fair – hosted by Charlotte Nichols MP. This event, attended by some of our Apprentices, was a great platform to showcase their journeys in the Nuclear Industry so far, as well demonstrating the career opportunities that nuclear presents for future generations.
Dr. Martin Goodfellow, Technical and Assurance Director, NUVIA UK commented, “NUVIA were delighted to support the NIA in this event. It was a huge opportunity for the nuclear industry to explain its role in delivering low-carbon, secure and affordable energy, now and for decades to come.
NUVIA has been supporting the delivery of nuclear energy and associated services around the world for over 60 years. We play a key role in shaping and training the future generation of nuclear specialists as well as delivering nuclear engineering solutions and radiation protection to all areas of the nuclear industry.”
